Jessica Nelson
Practicum Student
Jessica is a practicum student working towards a Master of Counselling Psychology at Athabasca University. For the duration of her practicum placement, Jessica will be supervised by Lauren Appleby. Jessica also has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Grant MacEwan University. While attending school, Jessica held multiple positions in the field of human services where she worked mainly with high-risk youth struggling with addictions, homelessness, mental health, and teen parenting.
Jessica believes that all clients possess the ability to change and create a life that aligns with their goals and values. She prefers a person-centered approach to therapy, where clients are positioned as the experts in their own lives. Jessica creates strong, collaborative relationships with clients by fostering a safe, supportive, non-judgmental therapeutic environment.
Jessica is primarily interested in narrative therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and dialectical behavior therapy. She also hopes to expand her knowledge of psychological assessment.
