Anna Heidebrecht, Practicum Student

Student Therapist

Anna is currently completing her Master of Counselling degree with the University of Lethbridge, and holds a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Psychology from MacEwan University. Her past work experience includes working with children and youth with disabilities and administering psychological assessments. From this work experience Anna became increasingly drawn to counselling. She is passionate about working in a field that is dedicated to improving the mental health and wellbeing of others. Anna believes in creating a nonjudgmental space for every person to share their story. She demonstrates compassion and warmth and values building trust, so clients feel comfortable being their most authentic selves and feel safe sharing their experiences with the pains and joys of life. Anna’s approaches therapy from a person-centered and trauma-informed framework. In her view, the client is the expert in their own life and she is there to support clients through life’s problems. From here she draws on a variety of approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT). Anna considers herself a life long learner, and is very excited to be supervised by Alyssa Ryan, a wonderful Registered Psychologist here at Kells to learn more therapeutic approaches. Anna’s believe that through a genuine therapeutic relationship, insight, and the right techniques, counselling is an opportunity to re-write our stories and reach our highest potential.
