Starting Somewhere: Your First Appointment at Kells

No matter what brings you to therapy, we want you to know that you are not alone. We hear you, and we want you to succeed.

Choosing to come to therapy is a brave choice. We want to make sure your first appointment is a welcoming experience.

Your First Contact

When you phone or email us to book an appointment, we try our best to get back to you within 48 hours.

When we contact you, you will need to have this information ready:

  • Your contact information.
  • Your health insurance or benefit plan information.
  • Your emergency contact information.
  • Your availability.

You can also tell us why you are seeking therapy. We can use that information to match you with a therapist that will suit your needs.

Your First In-Person Appointment

When you see a big yellow building that looks like a house, you have arrived at Kells Counselling. Follow the signs to find the entrance to Kells. There is also an elevator access at the back of the building.

Follow the signs to reception and check-in. Make sure you come 15 minutes early to fill out some forms before your first appointment. You will need your ID, credit card, and health benefit card if you have one.

Your therapist will meet you in the Kells waiting room and bring you to one of our therapy rooms. If you have any questions about the forms you filled out, your therapist will review them with you and answer any questions.

We understand that meeting new people can be difficult. Our therapists have created short introduction videos so you can start to get to know them. Our therapists are knowledgeable, friendly, and want you to succeed!

It is important to remember that our therapy rooms are safe spaces. What you share with your therapist is kept private. But, if you let us know that someone is in danger, your therapist must tell someone. Your therapist will talk to you more about times when they cannot keep your privacy.

During your first appointment, your therapist may ask questions like:

  • What brought you into therapy?
  • What kind of support system do you have?
  • What are your goals for therapy?

You might have some questions too! Some questions are:

  • How do you plan to help me?
  • Do you have experience working with challenges like mine?
  • What should I expect from our sessions?

After your session, check-in with the front desk to arrange payment. Kells Counselling offers direct billing services. Click here to find out more about our rates, payment options, and direct billing.
