Today, Janet Ryan-Newell, Founder and Registered Psychologist at Kells Counselling spoke to Dallas Flexhaug from Global News Morning Calgary about the petition recently launched by the Edmonton Psychologists Interagency Committee whose founding agencies include Kells Counselling, Insight Psychological, and Dreamcatcher Nature-Assisted Therapy.
The petition calls on the Government of Alberta to decentralize access to funded mental health supports. Instead, redirect some mental health funding from the centralized medical system and allow Registered Psychologists to bill AHS directly for psychological interventions.
Decentralized access to funded mental health supports will provide a better opportunity for early intervention.
